1890

« The origins of Château Roûmieu Lacoste can be traced back to 1890.

That was the year when the Lacoste family purchased this modest estate of just a few hectares. My great-grandfather Fernand managed these 4 hectares of land located in the Barsac-Sauternes appellation. At the time, our family ran two main operations on the estate: winemaking and cooperage. The combined expertise from those two trades gave our locally produced wines a certain edge and typicity.

When my grandfather Georges Dubourdieu married my grandmother Marguerite Lacoste, the estate’s name became Château Roûmieu Lacoste. »

« In 1930, my father, the eldest son of the Dubourdieu family, took over the business.

He and my mother Simone continued making wine on the estate, making sure they passed down the techniques and know-how they had learnt from my grandparents. After the acquisition of Château Graville-Lacoste, an AOC Graves estate located in Pujols-sur-Ciron, they decided to launch the production of dry white wines. »

« After observing and taking part in the life of the estate alongside my parents, it was my turn to take the reins in 1983.

History repeats itself and my wife Sabine and I also chose to work together on the estate. We have spent the last 40 years fine-tuning the techniques we learnt from our ancestors, while expanding the estate and modernizing our production facilities. Combining tradition and modernity has given our wines a touch of elegance that has seduced wine enthusiasts around the world over time. »

« Just like me, my sons André and Léon grew up on the estate.

From a very early age, they observed the work in the vineyard and loved taking part in the harvest. Years later, they quite naturally gravitated towards this profession, making them the fifth generation of winemakers in the Dubourdieu family.

The 2 brothers are committed to preserving the vineyard’s invaluable heritage, while updating and modernising our production techniques. »
